APU in the Community

Community service plays a key part in student life at APU. Students frequently participate in community service projects throughout the year. Projects are led by faculty and adults. The goal is to show students at a young age how they can make a difference in the community. Community service is not just an extra-curricular activity, but it is a requirement for graduation.

While with young students the emphasis is on encouraging them to become caring and responsible members of society, older students have the responsibility of sharing skill, experience and knowledge in return. We feel we have succeeded when students identify a situation in which others suffer and choose to respond to it.

Our students put their hearts in to helping others as they conduct fundraising events for flood victims, collect clothes and toys for orphanages during Christmas, donate school supplies to poverty areas and visit natural disaster areas to provide hands on relief. Each year students conduct toy drives at Christmas, and regular medical and natural disaster relief missions throughout the year.
